  1. How did you get the video so smooth? I'm doing the same thing with my GoPro to VLC and the video is very choppy. The video goes to my phones GO Pro app nice and smooth but to VLC it's very jerky. Any thoughts?

  2. not sure if you figured it out, but for it to work:
1)open vlc media player and connect to gopro wifi
    2)click on open media
    3)click on open network stream
4)type in what is on the second last line in the video at 00:1
    5)click play.
it may show up the feed for a few secnds and shut off, so play around with it for a while and toggle on and off the loop also.

  3. Try taking out the SD card for live streaming. I have a Go Pro 3 and tried it with the SD card in it, and it crashes after 3 seconds. The url that you enter 10.5.5.9:8080/live/amba.m3u8 points to a menu selection in the camera. Since the cams are designed to take "snap shots, time lapse, high speed(slow motion) and regular video" it doesn't know which stream to provide. Without the SD card it will stick itself into "preview mode", and you will get a stable stream on VLC.

  5. You can actually! I don't know why the creator of this video said you can't. Clearly he doesn't know.
You can easily re-stream this video. It'd be a little clunky, but yeah it can be done. What you need is two network cards (at least one wireless so you can connect to the camera).. You could use zoneminder for the security camera software… but you could also just restream with vlc if you wanted.

  6. Sadly not. I switched to using a JVC Adixxion action camera which does allow me to stream to the internet (ustream) with just any standard wifi hotspot

  7. This might sound ridiculous, but im not too savvy as i just got my GoPro. Can i set up this camera as a security camera? For example station it somewhere in my house and have the live feed on my computer at work? Sometimes i wonder what my dogs do all day when im not there too hahaha. Thanks! Btw if it matters i have the HD Hero 2 outdoor edition.

  8. Resolution is certainly not full HD. Sorry once I initially got it working and made that video, I have not looked since. Maybe someone else has continued the work and found a parameter to change the video quality.

  9. Im having the same issue that "newthursdaybrand" is experiencing.

Using 10.5.5.109:8080/live/amba.m3u8 the stream plays for 1 second and stops.

I've got the Hero3 Black firmware December 14,2012, with a MacBook Pro 10.7.3, and VLC 2.0.5

  10. This is interesting, but low resolution and extreme delay makes the streaming quite useless. GoPro announced FullHD streaming (see the CEO interview) about 9 months ago. All we have now is a small picture with >5 seconds delay. Way to go, GoPro.

  11. Can you adjust the resolution of the output? In other words have it show max resolution widescreen on your computer? I understand these record in HD. As such, is it possible to capture that on your computer at that resolution?

  12. Great stuff guys .. Would be great to see GoPro maybe have a switch in their firmware as they do with Protune mode for Liveview mode with no onboard recording .. would totally turn the GoPro into the ultimate camera device. The could have mixed mode for recording and camera setup.
