Only a speedy analysis of what I assume is the perfect arrange heading for a Plex server/family media streaming treatment. Whether or not or not you need to function a complete Plex server with all of your Blu Ray rips, or simply need to have a superior streaming choice to swap your outdated sensible Television set, that is it.

Moron, your plex will not play many bluray rips and iso. Kodi is the option.
But what about dolby atmos?
So do you plug the synology directly into the shield or are you accessing remotely.
Absolutely useless…
say it with me now folks… "RAID is not a backup". ok? ok 👍🏼
can i change the shield with any other android box ?
Lol I did this and my nas failed. Always have a backup thank god! I sold it and just ended up finding a pc sitting around the house intel i7 3rd gen bought a micro atx case for cheap corsair powersupply threw 16gb ram in there because im also using it for photos and music so file transfer is quick and that was that. fast and easy setup.
I was hoping you really showed how to setup nVidia shield icw. NAS to use it effectively. Now its only a list of components and the prices, something that everybody can do for themselves
can the nvidia pass through dtshd, dolby atmos, etc etc?
Buddy Can I ask how you mounted the Synology as a network drive
If any of you are connecting your shield to a remotely located Synology NAS via ethernet, please advise the command that is typed in the Manual Connect in the Shield's Storage and Reset window. ie smb:\???? Thanks!
Can the shield handle dolby Atmos?
Okay dude… you spend WAY too much time droning through this presentation. It should be organized with an introduction that summarizes what you will cover and how much detail you will cover in each topic mentioned. This will let people know right away if they want to sit through this or not.
I'm watching this and am at 80% before ANYTHING useful has been presented. And in the end, you NEVER show how the nVidia shield connects to other server/NAS devices. The protocols and all that are really important. And you miss it completely. This video was a huge waste of time.
Is it better to run the Plex Server on the Shield or to run the Plex Server on the NAS and use the shield as a client?
Earned a sub from the first few seconds because of the production quality! Great Job! Only thing is i would have played background music while talking…
What camera and lens do you use?
DS file and PLEX….which play 4k movie better..? (assume that gigabit lan setup)
and sometimes i also find that the video players app also impact the performance of play well (smooth)… (MX pro or VLC better?)
can you kindly share whats the best software to handler 4K streaming with above hardware..?
thanks
This is perfect, hopefully. So you are saying not to use the Plex Server on the Synology which is what my issue is now. It cannot handle Bluray rips to my Roku.
So if I use the Plex Server in the Nvidia Shield and stream (GB Network) from Synology (storage only) I can play full 1080 Bluray without any issues? That would be AMAZING! I was going to build a small plex server just for that but like this idea better I think.
Thanks for posting this.
Yeah but can i install this in my car and cast to two chromecast or fire tv sticks? To my 2 headrest monitors?
Could the Synology NAS be replaced with WD 4TB My Cloud Personal NAS?
how well would a ds216+ii do streaming 1080p/4k rips to a Shield?
"blu-ray rips"
This is what I was going to do, but without success. What kind of share did you set up on synology and what is your connection settings on Shield?
When I tried to use my network connection I stuck in connecting screen for couple of minutes, then I cancel it.
anyone having issues getting remote access to work on Nvidia Shield Pro? Behind my airport extreme router, I cant get it to work, my mb pro PMS server works fine just cant seem to make it work with Shield Pro..
I am considering the Pro version to replace my HTPC XBMC media center. Currently, I store the library on external drives and backup to a couple of My Books as my NAS. I am considering moving the externals and just streaming from the ethernet connected My Books with the Shield. I will still load new movies to the externals and back them up on another device. I thought the pro might be better because the pro works with my Harmony remote control and that remote controls all the other equipment. And I thought about moving from Kodi to Plex since the new Shield allows voice activation and the Plex works as both server and client on the Harmony. Your thoughts? Am I thinking about this correctly?
can u please make a video of a setup process.. manual if u say so… tnx… cuz for me is still unclear: did connect them via cable? or via wifi?
TechSouth I have a question. I almost bought the 16GB version but Plex forum guys told me not to. Reason, Plex cant use the adoptable storage (USB flash drive) of Shield. So if my library is 5-7TB Plex will fill up the 11 usable storage with metadata immediately. Then it requires temporary storage for Cloud Sync, Transcoding etc. How you are managing this?
Great Video – but I've got a question: Can I plug the HDD(s) into the Nvidia Shield and eliminate the need to buy a NAS? Can any device like a smartphone/tv with the plex app connect to the plex shield server and stream without a NAS?
I have a Synology NAS connected to my PC currently. I can't wait to move into my new place and get a Shield connected to my pc.
Did you test this system with 4K HDR movie, at least 30Mbps bitrate?
great vid, so the videos stored on the nas? then the shield pulls it off there to stream it? can this then stream to other devices like mobiles?
